Re: Pier Solar HD

I haven't played Pier Solar. Speaking personally, while I can find the occasional rant amusing if done well, most of the time I'd really rather read a review which comes across as more evenhanded. If the reviewer comes to the conclusion that the game isn't very good, that's fine, but I don't want th...

Re: We need more fans.

To be honest, that's part of the reason why I'm afraid a new Lunar game would be a cheap cash-in.

Re: We need more fans.

I don't think it would be impossible, or even especially improbable, that a new team could make a quality Lunar game, but my concern would be that one of the following things would happen: 1) "Lunar in name only," i.e., a cheap cash-in. 2) A "fanboyish" production that tries to c...

Re: We need more fans.

Honestly, I don't think I'd care that much about which company was making a hypothetical new Lunar game as I would the people behind it. That is, I'd rather have Kei Shigema and other Lunar veterans involved with another company than a Lunar made by a bunch of series newcomers working for Game Arts.

I wonder what's in those Lysine supplements, because our kitty goes wild for them too.

Re: FF VIII (re)visited

There have definitely been times when I've gotten tired of doing side quests and it's making me want to give up on a game and then I have to remind myself that I don't have to keep doing the side quests and can continue with the main story.

Re: FF VIII (re)visited

I can certainly think of many times I've played a game and had it overstay its welcome. You play enough games where he first 75% is great and the final 25% is a bit of a slog and you really start to appreciate the adage that you should leave your audience wanting more.

Re: FF VIII (re)visited

In an odd way, this topic is reminding me that I want to revisit FFIX. That is, my experience with FFIX is somewhat similar to Werefrog's experience with FFVIII. I never finished the game and at the time decided that I disliked it, but I suspect that I would enjoy it more now. Looking back, I think ...

Re: Are Lunar 1 and 2 (PS1) actually difficult RPGs?

Speaking only for myself, I found that for quite some time I tended to conserve my MP in RPGs because I had "save your MP for the bosses" drilled into my head. It's one of the most common pieces of generic RPG advice, alongside "talk to everybody." Over time I learned that it's g...

Re: Board/Card Games

I didn't mean to abandon this topic after the first post but I've been pretty busy lately. Anyway, the other day I played a rather unusual game of Dominion . I scored 131 points--all on the last turn. To put that in perspective if you haven't played Dominion in a typical game a winning score will be...

Re: New article by Kotaku featuring Lunar 2: EBC Nostaliga

I don't know that I'd say I wanted them to die so much as I just found a bunch their redemptions really forced and unconvincing. Lunn in particular seemed to be really repugnant and did nothing to earn his redemption beyond Shigema deciding all the villains would reform and be forgiven.

Board/Card Games

Note: I'm not sure whether this really belongs here or in Almost Anything Goes. I certainly won't be offended if it gets moved. In the past decade or so, I've really become quite interested in board games as I learned that there's a lot more to the board gaming world than the traditional games I wa...

Re: So, an idea for Lunar 3?

With Lunar, each game has centered on a villain that wants in some way or another to take control of Althena's power, whether for very twisted ideals (Ghaleon), out of pure malice (Zophar), and so on. In an age where the goddess is a more distant presence, it would be interesting to see a slightly ...

Re: World Cup 2014 Thread

The best way to watch the World Cup is on Univision or at least to switch to Univision whenever a goal is scored. Those announcers get excited! It's worth it even if you don't speak Spanish.

Re: Lunar Guidebook Scans

They were going for that much just a year after EBC came out. Small print run, I suppose. If I recall correctly, the guidebook wasn't ready in time for the game's release, which led to small orders from retailers (the majority of guidebook sales coming when the game is brand new) and therefore a sm...

It's not so much my reaction to the joke itself as some of my replies to what others said in the topic that I find a bit embarrassing. That said, I think you're right that some of it is just I'd word things differently now. Regarding Renn's artwork, I think it was a combination of having a distincti...

Re: Why do MMO games look so good graphically?

I avoid these sorts of browser games like the plague for all the reasons Kiz mentions along with the whole "pay to win" dynamic found in many of them. The marketing effort for a lot of these games seems rather sleazy as well. Remember the person who used to spam this forum with ads for bro...

Re: Lunar 2: something got lost from Lunar 1?

Game Players found the game's larger scope and expanded features made it less enjoyable than its predecessor, saying "it's a better game, it's just not quite as much fun. [We] still liked it, a lot, and it's definitely recommended, but it feels like something's been lost."[30] Game Player...

Re: Final Fantasy VI - iOS

Keeping in mind I can't really compare to the Japanese versions, I'm mostly happy with Woolsey's translations. As pointed out by others, many of the problems were the result of censorship that he had no choice about. He did supposedly mistranslate a line in Chrono Trigger, changing the meaning from ...

This one is still the best we ever pulled off: http://www.lunar-net.com/fhs.php It managed to make it onto all sorts of gaming news websites around the world. I remember making a topic about it on the now defunct forums at lunareb.com. I recall my initial impression as being "Well, I'm skeptic...
