Re: Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword

I admittedly haven't played a ton of Fire Emblem but in what I've played I've always gone for supports based on storyline reasons. Seems more fun to me than trying to min-max. Honestly one of the things I liked about the support system is how it felt different from relationship systems in other game...

Re: Dunkirk

I would say there's a pretty clear plot, just told from multiple perspectives and in a nonlinear fashion. It's certainly not at all character-driven though. The characters tend to have little in the way of backstory and there's relatively little dialog.

Re: The Great American Eclipse

We went to see it, but between being pretty far from the path of totality and it being a cloudy day the view wasn't as spectacular as it could be.

Re: In-world sequels and myth building

Thanks for the responses. Imperial Knight and Alunissage, I appreciate the Langrisser/Growlanser discussion. With Growlanser II and III, the connections between them felt fairly tenuous. IIRC the act that connects to Growlanser II is related to the main story but doesn't resolve it, and there's a w...

The Grandia series would be the most obvious example, both being from Game Arts and all. I'm guessing you've already played it though.

Re: In-world sequels and myth building

Wein (and most of II's playable cast) is from Burnstein, although both I&II have playable characters from both Rolandia and Burnstein. There's a third country on the continent, Ranzack, although it doesn't have as large a role in I's story as the other two counties and barely has a role at all i...

Re: Least favorite Lunar 1 or Lunar 2 character

Yeah, both of their redemptions ring false to me. I feel like you need more than just "I'll be good now, I promise" after defeating them to be believable. One of the notable weak points of the story.

Re: In-world sequels and myth building

Yeah, Growlanser II takes place a year after Growlanser , aside from a short introduction section that takes place during the events of the original. One neat thing the game does is have the main character be from a different country as the main character from the original. You get to see a differen...

Re: Fastest Game Time

I think talking to every NPC multiple times makes my fastest game time rather slow. :) I'd have to dig out memory cards to see. If you mean SSSC, I'm sure I'm not under 16 hours. This would get me as well. I even liked to go back to places I'd already been after major events to see if the NPCs said...

Based on what Vic has said on NeoGAF over the years, I wouldn't expect Gaijinworks to localize any hypothetical Lunar releases.

Re: In-world sequels and myth building

A nice, albeit somewhat obscure, example would be the Langrisser series in its original iteration. The series consists of five games (not counting remakes and the like) spanning 1000 years, with a clear beginning and end (that is, Langrisser V was very intentionally set up to end the series) made du...

Re: *Pops In*

My recollection is that a fair number of topics on the old boards were in the archive but almost none for the new boards. Navigation can be an issue since there's not always a great match between what links you can click on and what got archived, but you can play around with URLs and wildcards to un...

I remember you, or at least that user name. Obviously after more than a decade my memories of what people actually posted are very hazy. I haven't done so in a while, but if you do want to take a trip down memory lane, a decent number of threads have been preserved on the Internet Archive, though it...

Re: Activism, Social Justice, Protests and you: The Political Discussion Containment Thread

If these political discussions annoy you so much, then maybe instead of saying how you don't want to participate and then doing so anyway, you could actually stay out of the discussion. Honestly you could really use to engage in some self-reflection. You have a very defensive attitude ("I have ...

Re: Activism, Social Justice, Protests and you: The Political Discussion Containment Thread

Sorry for the double post, but the CBO score for the Senate bill is out. Highlights: -Compared to current law, 22 million people will lose their health coverage by 2026 (House version was 23 million). -In the next year alone, 15 million people will lose their health coverage. -Next year, 4 million p...

Re: Activism, Social Justice, Protests and you: The Political Discussion Containment Thread

To clarity, I wasn't attempting to make light of the real-world consequences of this legislation (which will be catastrophic). I'm just amazed that they're planning to go through with this when the politics are so unfavorable, with the last note being a reminder of what's really important here. That...

Re: Activism, Social Justice, Protests and you: The Political Discussion Containment Thread

The House version of the AHCA consistently polls near 20% approval. The Senate of course won't say what's in their version but it seems it won't differ substantially from the House version. I'd be happy about them being so desperate to pass such a dreadfully unpopular bill if it didn't mean over 20 ...

It's funny the things you remember. For whatever reason I had a memory of Vic defending that specific line on USENET. A little bit of searching brought up this.
