Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?

Alunissage I totally respect that, but would it be acceptable to point out that the whole point of the translations by Working Design at that time were simply to make the game culturally relatable to Americans? I mean, do you think that there weren't Americans in the 1990s who rolled their eyes at ...

Re: Grandia HD Collection on Nintendo Switch

After about 12 hours, I've noticed a few things in Grandia that may give pause if you have high expectations. 1. Occasionally music or sounds will glitch when transitioning to a battle or (especially) a boss. It self-corrects after a moment, and isn't an issue afterward. 2. Widescreen is mostly very...

Re: Grandia HD Collection on Nintendo Switch

I picked the collection up. It has been a long time since I played Grandia, so I figured that having it on portable was worth the price of admission.

So far, it has been a giddy experience. I forgot how much I liked the writing and humor in this game.

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

Oh, I've been playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I played the first time with the Black Eagles (spoiler: I chose the church over Edelgard ), and am doing a second playthrough (on Hard Classic) with the Golden Deer. It is one of the more narratively interesting FE games; I haven't been this engaged s...

Welcome!

This site was unrelated to LunarEB. I visited those forums for a time; this place was around since most of its original members were on AOL.

Re: If the Lunar-Net website was getting a graphical update

Yes, re: minimalism of menu design. However, having no graphical art from Lunar would be a missed opportunity. I consider all the work with the banners and the graphics to have been well spent.

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I played and beat FF7 for the Switch. Between this and FF9, I have finished two Final Fantasy games in my life. Having the x3 speed really helps. In the past, the endgame of a Final Fantasy would always bog me down and I'd lose interest. I'm waiting for Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I'm also on the fen...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I'm over halfway through Xenogears. This is a replay of a game I haven't touched much in 15 years. I've forgotten enough that I don't remember most of the plot details, but remember enough that I can see most of the foreshadowing. The combat is a lot easier than I remember it. I have also started th...

Re: Ideal April Fool's...

First, negativity and stress turn me off of any April Fool's joke, whether it is direct (causing someone to stress out because something's missing) or indirect (causing someone else to have sympathy for another because of their misfortune). On a related note, I don't like anything that would solicit...

Re: GHALEON DID NOTHING WRONG

^ I think that's a fair reading overall. I don't think orientation is coded by styles, tics, behaviors, and so on, but I do think that character designs sometimes reflect the perspectives of designers who at least subliminally believe that and bring that to bear in their art. A more overt but also c...

^ Would you say that Althena's periodic reincarnations were a way to go on a sabbatical, or possible temporary breaks from a job she could do but wanted to go beyond?

Re: GHALEON DID NOTHING WRONG

One thing that struck me in this thread is the way that Ghaleon is possibly designed with homosexual stereotypes in mind. Alunissage cites this dialogue: I GUESS NOW HE'S 'OUT OF THE CLOSET' WORLDWIDE. This may be Working Designs camping up the dialogue, but it feels odd to use the idiom of "co...

Re: Pentagulia's destruction

A parallel: there's a moment in a novel I won't name when a reckless politician, on a passenger train whose engine has broken down, urges that they be switched to an old coal engine instead of waiting for another diesel engine. He eventually harangues the operator into doing so, even though the olde...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I'm replaying Phantasy Star IV on the Genesis Classics collection for the Switch. The game still holds up for me. The initial scenes with the school principal are a study in doing a lot of character development with little dialogue, and each interparty dialogue since has been thoroughly entertaining...

Merry Christmas everyone!

Besides spending much of the day keeping baby!Sonic entertained, I played Azul (an excellent board game) with family, played some Red Dead Redemption 2 and Mario Party, and I played with blocks.

The only two games on there that I (a) might play and (b) don't have are Wild Arms and Persona, so it's a no go for me. If I ever want to relive my Cool Boarders 2 days, I can hook up my PS2 like anyone else.

(Having Arc convenient and ready to play might have done it for me.)

The intro music to Halt and Catch Fire, because I've been watching the show and the intro is that good to me.
