Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
I'm playing Dragon Quest XI. I love it so far. It feels as fresh and exciting as DQ8 did, and it's tapping into my inveterate capacity for roaming cities looking for pots to break. Also, while it's early in the story, I'm intrigued by what direction it's going in. I have a few guesses.

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
I've bounced hard off of Octopath Traveler. I'm at ~25 hours and don't have interest in playing further at the moment.
I'm waiting for Shenmue I and II to come out. I'll play those games (as I have time) until Dragon Quest XI is released in the US.

Rivers in the Desert, Persona 5.

The last ace in a lost hand
A heartbeat for a tin man
Oasis in a singed land"

I figured out I could do New Game+ of Persona 5 with one hand while carrying a sleeping baby, so that.

Re: Blind witches
"Design or performance." To clarify, I agree with Shiva Indis's explanation that this is a design choice. Those examples are both about in-game graphics, this is a detail in an FMV (in the actual animation, not playback/encoding). Performance would not be affected.

Re: What is Canon?
I would say any published game (yes, including Dragon Song) definitely qualifies as canon unless one of the developers says otherwise. (Kei Shigema's explanation as paraphrased by Imperial Knight gets at this.) In addition, I would say that the manga and novels may also qualify as canon, as they tel...

Re: Blind witches
There's an article to be written about missing body parts for the sake of overall design or performance. It makes me think of the footless characters in Fire Emblem: Awakening or the faceless NPCs in Persona 5:

1. It's a still from the intro video for Lunar: SSSC. https://youtu.be/71ripBa8Ga8?t=38s . With a reverse image search I found this still from a YouTube video of the Making Of Lunar film: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/r3QtXqTaRos/maxresdefault.jpg We have this version on the Lunar-Net page, which features ...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
Much of my gaming time suddenly disappeared for obvious reasons. At least right now I don't have the time for deep sustained dives into games, so I've been playing in shorter spurts: Skyrim, Phantasy Star IV, and Raft have all received some attention.

So I have a baby
One event that happened last month deserves mention here: my wife and I welcomed a baby into the world. He's healthy, happy, and will someday learn not to wake us up in the middle of the night.
Maybe the next time I replay Lunar I'll have a little audience.

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
I played through half of Growlanser 2. I may return, but in the interim I've been distracted by playing Skyrim for the Switch. (I am committed to seeing my Orc Hammerwielder Miranda through.) I've also been playing Into the Breach. From the developers of FTL, it indeed feels like a turn-based tile s...

I came here from AOL (Althena's Court), and never did more than lurk at the Shrine of Ghaleon and WDMB.
I did post at lunareb.com, but only briefly and after I had already been active here.

Re: What's your favorite turn-based NON-Lunar RPG?
I hate picking favorites. Certainly, I can't pick a single one. That would be a whim of the moment, since there are a few games in the specified category that I frequently turn to for happy memories, for solace, for inspiration, or for rumination. So gut check time: what comes up? Chrono Cross is on...

Re: Least favorite Lunar 1 or Lunar 2 character
^ I really hope there's a source for that. Like, peeing on Mel? Is that juvenile writing or a fairly plausible thing for a rascal kid to do? Kyle never had much of a development character-wise in the story in seemingly any of it's iterations which is really unfortunate. My own disclaimer: as an Engl...

Re: Jess's Mom
^ See, on the one hand I've thought that explanation as well, that Nash was looking for either Luna or Quark, and that Ghaleon needed to find Quark in order to be able to act. On the other hand, why wouldn't Ghaleon already know (generally) where Quark was? Something about that trip feels like an ex...

Re: Song of the moment
They Might Be Giants' album I Like Fun. Specifically Last Wave. Despite the bluntness of the lyrics, I find it to be a motivating song.
