Re: Song of the moment
First single off the Mountain Goats' new album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lqy7KBuO7Y
It's sorta of a concept album about professional wrestling, but it's mostly about the singer looking back on his adolescent heroes and using their life course to anticipate his own future.

I'm torn. On the one hand, he made Fringe. On the other hand, he made lost.

Re: Majora's Mask 3DS
I was never THAT bothered by the Water Temple. I remember kids in school complaining about it, but it was easy for me. BUT I remember on my first playthrough I got stuck for a long time in the Forest Temple. This topic is making me wish I could play Ocarina of Time again for the first time. It was m...

Re: The Hobbit greenit.
I've been enjoying the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I guess you can say that Hollywood is doing the superhero genre to death, but a shared universe of this magnitude is pretty ambitious and groundbreaking.

Do you grow it so you can look like your own evil twin? Because I try to do that too sometimes.

Re: Coffee Thread
Obviously coffee can't be grown (at least not well) in the US. So assuming that each roaster takes the same care with their green coffee (a big if, obviously), it's better to get coffee from a local roaster. Smart aleck.

Re: Coffee Thread
Just made a "shot" of the Ethiopian coffee I got from the local coffee shop using my Aeropress. Damn fine cup of coffee. They don't roast their own beans. They get it 'em from Louisville, which is probably the closest place for locally roasted coffee (Honestly, it's pretty much a three-way...

Re: Coffee Thread
I think a French press is the best way to make coffee in an easy way. Two tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee per 6 oz water. Water just off the boil. 3:30 - 4:00 min. Get your beans from a shop and have them grind them for you (tell them that it is for a French press)... at least at this stage in...

Where are you? Roughly, I mean. Currently in a small town in Indiana. It's about one-and-a-half hours from Louisville, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis. They get their coffee from Louisville. Went to another shop earlier in the week and their coffee was from Oklahoma of all places. WD_RPG_WD... you sho...

Found a great local coffee place where I just moved to! Will probably start buying my beans there to support local business.

Re: FF VIII (re)visited
I enjoyed IX! It's been a long time since I played it, and I don't remember where disks begin and end. At what point did they abandon having several different parties each with their own story? When I played it at the time, it seemed super interesting following the different stories. It also made me...

Re: Coffee Thread
Do any of you have a recommendation on national brands for beans? I usually buy Aldi brand. I enjoy the Aldi brand, but I think I might be willing to spend a few extra bucks now if it brought with it an increase in quality.

Re: Coffee Thread
I'm trying to find info on coffee oil's impact on cholesterol, but I am coming up short right now. If I find an article that's more definitive I will copy/paste the abstract. And yes, if the coffee oil has an impact on cholesterol the majority of the oil will be filtered out by any old paper filter....

Re: Coffee Thread
BTW, if anyone ever gets me a Keurig coffee machine, that thing's going in the trash and I may not speak to you for a while afterwards. Amen to that! My sister has one and my mom calls it, "the stupid coffee machine." It takes up so much space for such crappy coffee. She uses it to make h...

Re: The Hobbit geenlit.
I don't mind Tom Bombadil! His chapter was lighthearted and silly. It was out of place tonally in LOTR, and it makes sense that it was cut out for the LOTR movie. It would have fit better in the Hobbit. And it's not like they didn't have space to include some version of Tom Bombadil. They turned a 3...

Re: FF VIII (re)visited
I didn't like the direction FFVIII took at the end either, but I never managed to reconcile the differences in tone from the first disc to the later ones. My FFVIII would have had Idea as a well-intentioned extremist mastermind. That'd make a lot of sense actually. There is a huge difference betwee...

Re: FF VIII (re)visited
The only plot twist that was ridiculous to me was the reveal that they were all living in the same orphanage and that GFs cause memory loss . Granted, that's a pretty major plot twist. The ending plot twist made a great deal of sense to me, but I watch a lot of Doctor Who. So, I can just say Wibbly-...
