Re: (SSS) GHALEON DID NOTHING WRONG
Shocking follow-up to shocking headline: Jenner's thread title is actually true, but for SSS Ghaleon instead. Not only is he a stand-in for a legitimate debate between a Hobbesian/Confucian/Catholic "peace in a chaotic world through authority/order/ceremony" and a Lockean/Deist/humanist &q...

Re: Pentagulia's destruction
Gah, what a place to hide the Borgan Bromide that would be.) While there are many reasons I can’t stand the EB remake, from the awful movies to the bungled last bosses and misplaced music, I probably would have forgiven the whole thing if it had done something boldly different like the remake from ...

Re: Pentagulia's destruction
Hahaha, okay, okay, I hate to utter the name of the author of such unreadably poor text and socially irresponsible themes, but I'll just imagine that the writings of Ayn Rand were in the library of Pentagulia building no. 8 when the dragons showed up and are now in the bottom of the sea. ...you know...

Re: Pentagulia's destruction
I like the approaches above: mass death at Pentagulia doesn't mesh with the EB world or its themes (TSS was much rougher, but those edges were sanded out after the first game), so it's likely an oversight that I'll personally continue to imagine as a mass departure after the party discovers the Cult...

Re: Pentagulia's destruction
Since the Cult leadership seemed so obviously corrupt and unsympathetic, I rememeber cheering when Pentagulia got wasted, but it's true that it would be surprisingly uncharacteristic for a game that was much softer than the more violent original, with even unredeemable characters like Linus/Lunn get...

Re: 20th anniversary chat
G1, this is great! Thanks for this, and of course for all your work over the years in building such an important center for Lunar. As a kid in the 1990s, I never met a single person with a Mega CD, so Lunar was one of the first things I searched for on the internet, in hopes of finding information a...

Re: Is Mystere a separate character from Leo?
But Lord Leo went down in a blaze of shame. Definitely not like Mystere at all . KF Someday when I learn graphic design, I will make a glorious coat of arms for the Masked White Knight, complete with his lineage from Fulari and Kakar, to memorialize his valor and distinctness from Leo. Bonus mask o...

Re: Vile tribe
"black magic" in English definitely has an evil connotation incompatible with dragons. Although now I wonder if it's used in other games...? Like, I think there's a book in Vane in TSS that refers to dragon magic; was that "black magic" in Japanese Good observation! I had to thi...

Re: Vile tribe
L-l-lore! My favorite. Just as Ghaleon's being a member of the tribe appears nowhere in TSS or SSS themselves, the sympathetic look at the tribe also really only comes out in these non-game stories...aside from a throw-away scene in SSS where you help one of them during a cave collapse, and I guess ...

Re: Questions regarding the series
It's an interesting one. This is the unsuccessful appellate lawsuit by Studio Alex, where it sought royalties for SSS on Sega Saturn and damages for SSS on PS, PC, and Working Designs version, based on the idea that SSS was a derrivative work of TSS and thus subject to the joint copyright on TSS hel...

Re: What is Canon?
But what if I told you that my Lunar 1 canon of choice is the novelizations, in which Kyle is a pirate captain with his own Dragonship? This is the only true Lunar canon! And wasn't Magic City Althena some sort of space rocket? It's so nutty that it must be authoritative. I'm going to muddy the can...

Re: Seeking Lunar Merchandise
A word to the wise (collectors): in the event that you're having trouble on auctions or Alun can't bear to part with Festas, you can find the albums quite easily on Amazon Japan used. I believe they have a decently robust English site translation as well, and if you're choosing used entries which ar...

Re: Send in the clowns...
I...I'm not sure if your friend understands what that phrase is meant to be. If he's using it when there are things he doesn't like, it sounds almost like he thinks Ghaleon's dubbed line is cool enough to stand in as a threat against the things he doesn't like ("it's my glorious, festive entran...

Barring an actual text dump from the game files, you could do worse than to read a Gamefaqs transcription, I suppose: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/197808-lunar ... faqs/62187

Re: First impressions of Eternal Blue
What a joy to be playing MCD Eternal Blue for the first time! To have spent all one's life without having played one of the finest RPGs ever made, rather than "peaking early" by playing it at age 12... G1!! G1!! Right on about the TSS mysteriousness, as you've rightly noted and as Alun has...

Ha! The more Fulari around here, the better, I say. * Haduken (Jean, EB). Temzin notes: “This one, 気功弾 kikoudan, is a pretty obvious nod to Chun-li's 気功拳 kikouken, or qigong (spirit energy).” I, er, had to look up what game this is from and verify that it’s the same series that Hadoken is in, becaus...

My pleasure! You all do so much to commemorate my favorite games of bygone times. It's easy enough to do them here, but you can always send stuff to the maoujacky at hotmail.com address if it's easier for you in a spreadsheet. Neat, give the Russian a try with the pronouciations as you'd do them in ...

Oh sure, these only take a second to do! Happy to help with any that Kiz is too busy to tackle. Er, except for Nasch's weird German-sounding spell in SSS, though! Some mysteries will remain eternal. Edit: it was annoying me again, so I looked around and see that it must be Russian! The グローム is appar...
