Game Arts purchased
Game Arts is essentially no more now. They've been swallowed up by Gung Ho. Details are scarce, but it's looking like they'll just be focusing on the new Grandia MMOG. No mention of if anything is intended for Game Arts licenses...like you know...Lunar.

Generally, by the time QA gets a hold of a game, it's too late for any major gameplay changes. Yeah, that's what I meant. I have a few contacts within US game companies who get me info on games as they progress. A couple of them are testers and they don't have any input on the games they work on. T...

Had there been playtesters of the original Japanese version, this element would've been ditched. I'd bet all my silver that no one seriously play-tested it. Beta-test for bugs, sure, but no testing for playability. KF AFAIK, QA in Japan is the same as it is here. Their real responsibility is to jus...

I would not bet on 30-40k sales worldwide being the break even point though. They may sound abysmal, but at 40k sales, that would be roughly $1.5M (the NPD numbers reflect that most places are selling it for $40). Take out a good chunk of that for retail, distribution, licensing, printing, and adve...

September US sales
This comes from NPD which isn't perfect. They don't cover every last retailer and I believe it's only US, not all of NA. Lunar:DS sold 9,669 copies in September. Considering that and the Japanese numbers, I do not foresee another Lunar in the near future. But I'm guessing they probably only need to ...

There is no way in hell I would pay for the remakes of the remakes I already own. Plus, in theory games for CDs last forever. When they were introduced yes. But now we know that CDs and DVDs will both rot over time. The speed at which it happens is dependent on how well you take care of them, but s...

Konami is the developer and publisher of Castlevania and it's not just marketing people who don't like to talk about the N64 versions. If you want a quote directly from somebody who worked on the game, you're even MORE out of luck, because it's not very often somebody who works on a game is allowed ...

I don't know why it just came to me now, but there is history of game companies excluding games as part of a series entirely by "proof by omission" as you put it. Konami refuses to mention the N64 Castlevania games any more. In fact, the promotional materials for Lament of Innocence said "The first ...

So I guess the Star Dragon is sort of an enigma. Not needed for the creation of the Silver Star or to bestow power onto the Dragonmaster (b/c the DM would not be Master over the Star Dragon). It's gotten less common in recent years, but Japanese storytelling in manga and anime of the 80's especiall...

I'm not even sure WHY you're bothering to look for anything. After everything you've read here, you are not satisfied? If somebody says that it IS part of the main series, will you drop it? You are talking about a decade old game. And not just that, but one made in Japan. The information you've gott...

mainly for G1: you know, you may want to start a FAQ taking some of the conclusions we've drawn from these discussions. Things like "In what games does it state Althena was born multiple times?" "How many past dragonmasters are mentioned in the libraries?" Stuff like that. Ignore me if you already h...

I think we've begun to overuse the word canon on these forums. In this particular use of it, we're really talking about authenticity (obviously not any of the religious meanings). There's no question that all of the games are authentic and accepted as Lunar games and therefore canon. The real issue ...

Heh, reviews are silly. Case in point, Epert and Ropert gave a movie two thumbs up because the "Rape scene was spectacular, nothing was left out, it made you feel like you where actually there watching it." yet gave Agent Cody Banks two thumbs down because of it's sexual theme with a 14ish agent an...
