Dragon Aura 1.2* - L2EBC Save Editor (UPDATED AGAIN!)

Post by captaindax »

Hello everyone, I wasn't quite sure where to put this but I guess this is good.

I've been working on a save state editor for L2EBC (PSX). I've finally got something together to show you now and I hope someone will find it useful/fun besides myself. It currently lets you edit all of Hiro's stats and equipped items. The next release I do should include spells and include all of the other characters. I'm hoping to add a few more features (like choosing who's in your party, taking Lucia off AI...) but that's yet to be seen.

Anyway here's a screenshot and download link. It currently works with the pSX emulator's .psv savestate format. Mostly because that's the emulator I tend to use (requires no plugins, runs Lunar flawlessly as far as I can tell, http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com/).

Image

http://www.captaindax.net/downloads/Dra ... 0rough.zip

The hardest part was the items. For some reason each item within a category is 24 bytes away from the one before it, and the first item in a category seems to start at a random even number. But I managed to find and include all 280 items. (If you want to play around, you can equip an item with the program, then unequip it in the game, and it goes into your inventory).

If you have any questions/comments/suggestions please let me know! I'm sure there are bugs so even if you're complaining about something it still helps ;)

P.S.

It's written in Visual Basic 2008 (a wuss language, I know, I know).

UPDATE

http://www.captaindax.net/downloads/DragonAura11.zip

This one allows for full editing of all of Hiro's Stats, Equipment and Spell Slots. This is the big one, as probably the biggest task in this program was identifying and cataloging all the spells. I believe I've found them all (a total of 136!) and included them. There are 20 spell slots and it's possible to place any spell in any of them, and they all work. However if you cast a spell that's not meant for your character expect them to randomly change into the one it matches (for example, Jean's karate spells result in you turning into her) or for Hiro to shout a phrase that doesn't match up.

I get the idea that with this program, Lunar is now in the emulation scene. I haven't been able to play around with it yet, but it's very cool.

Good luck to you on adding more features in the future. You mentioned some interesting things about the inner workings of the game while developing this, and I hope you'll continue. (I've always been curious about Lucia's AI, myself.)

Thanks! I was waiting for a response to see if there was any interest at all, and now I'm going to get cracking on the rest. (Though I have to admit it's tons of fun just to write programs like this). I'm not so sure about Lucia's AI but I'm hoping it's not hard coded. At the very least I should be able to do some really neat things. I want to see if I can make the Dragon Ship destiny available at any time too.

I'd love to play around with this in my nonexistent free time. I'm always happy to find out how games work. More curious about what the game was originally programmed to do than what can be done to the game, but hopefully this will become possible to discern.

I meant to reply sooner. I don't have much to say other than yeah, there's definitely interest. (from me anyways)

Just an update, I have been pretty busy today but I did manage to find time to start on the spells. Surprisingly the spells do not follow the same pattern as items, but instead increase by h16 (that's 22 decimal). I'm hoping to have spells implemented tomorrow if I get some free time.

Edit: On another note the spells seem to implement themselves in sets of three, the first three values are the top row then the next three are bottom etc.

Know if this can be used to edit the save files on the PSP?

Not sure what the PSP uses for save files but probably not, this particular editor works with .psv savestates for the emulator I mentioned. I didn't design it to edit memory card files because I believe they require a checksum and are more complicated. Let me know if it does work or you come up with something though.

I haven't seen a save file converter for that format, but if it's any help I've used the one above to convert the memory card saves for epsxe and backl with a dexdrive and it works well. There may be another converter out there that can go to or from one of the file types this one accepts.

I wonder if this could work on the PS3, because it accepts .psv files when you transfer saves onto the PS3.

Localflick - Thanks for the link!

Silver Phoenix - I believe the PSV files are different but you never know

Progress has slowed on this a little with Finals and the Holidays going on, but not abandoned I swear :)

Also the emulator I'm using accepts regular memory card files as well. So you could load your game up, make a save state, edit what you want, and then save back to the card file and open it wherever you want.

Hello everyone, just thought I'd let you know I'm making great progress with spells but found something rather peculiar.

10 Spells that I don't recognize

Earth Wall - Structure of soil (1MP)
Thunder Wall - Clap of doom (1MP)
Freezing Wall - Wall of ice (1MP)
Flaming Wall - Inescapable barrier of flame (1MP)
Wind Wall - Deadly wind barrier (1MP)
Call Earth - Use against Thunder and Wind (6MP)
Call Thunder - Use against Earth and Water (6MP)
Call Water - Use against Thunder and Fire (6MP)
Call Flame - Use against Water and Wind (6MP)
Call Wind - Use against Fire and Earth (6MP)

I've found other spells I don't recognize either (Such as Thunder Thrust, which appears to be a spell from SSSC) But all of these happened to be right together.

I have no idea what the "wall" spells are, but the "call" spells are the ones that cause the battlefield to have an elemental affinity. For example, if you cast "Call Earth," then all Earth spells will do bonus damage while Thunder and Wind spells will all suffer a penalty. A character gets the spell by wearing two elemental crests of the same type.

One elemental crest + the Goddess Crest will also enable the "call" spells. Though that's always the case with the Goddess Crest, which seems to basicall be a wildcard crest.

The other spells may be enemy or boss spells. I'm pretty sure that the Blue Fiend had a spell with the Call Water effect. Another possibility is item-enabled spells or effects.

It's interesting because the wall spells have icons and descriptions, as though they were meant to be used by a party member.

It seems there's way more spells than I thought there were...another one I don't recognize is "Loaded Dice".

There are a ton of EBC spells because of all of the crests as well as the levelling up. I don't pretend that my own lists are all-inclusive, and there are something like 95 unique spells *without* using any crests, just what the party members have.

Sometimes there's just unused or redundant data, though. Lucia's spells have descriptions, and the only way to see them is basically via a minor bug.

(Update #3, I believe this list is complete, if anyone sees I'm missing something let me know)

This is my list so far. The actual POSSIBLE number of spells available in the game is roughly 2,805. This is 136 I've found (137 if you count the empty slot). It looks like "Burning Rage" and "Burning Soul" were not used in the game, as they are stuck in their own category, are the only spells in that category, and only one of them works. Burning Rage is fully functional with icon, description, and it raises the entire party's attack. Burning Soul however looks like it's unfinished and locks the game up on trying to cast it.

No$ = Costs nothing to cast
Lck = Locks the game up on use
Unknown = No name or description but causes a visible effect in battle

Goes like this
Value|Category - Description

2A3F - Burning Soul(Lck)
143F - Burning Rage

I'll compare this list to my own at home when, well, I get home. Burning Rage is definitely in the game, though; it's enabled through equipping the Hero's Talisman, found in the Brave Labyrinth during the Epilogue. And all the No$ you list (except for the unknowns, of course) are Lucia's spells; I recognize all those names.

That's weird it's in it's own category though, especially when there's unused space in others, but that could be because it's epilogue material. I guess I need to play this game through more thoroughly I feel like a moron.

Let me know how the comparison goes.

Eh, don't feel bad -- some of these are pretty obscure. You have to really work to see Lucia's Solar Bomb, for example; it's what she casts if you level Hiro up to 14 before leaving the Spire with her (before encountering Zophar that first time).

I think Burning Rage was only in the PS version of the game, not the Saturn version (since the Saturn version didn't have so many extra dungeons), so that could be why it's in its own category. Possibly Burning Soul was also intended to be an add-in that was scrapped during development.
