Lunar panel at Otakon

This board is for general discussion of Lunar. Especially things such as Lunar merchandise, general discussions about the story that span more than one game, etc.

Lunar panel at Otakon

Post by Nadia »

Hello! I am planning on running a panel about our favorite videogame series at Otakon. Unfortunately, I have sort of been out of the Lunar scene since like... forever. (Would you believe I haven't even played all the way through the remakes? I plan on playing through them before I run the panel but still...) So... I have another old fan helping me on the panels but I was hoping that maybe someone who was a little more up to date on things would like to join me? Two more would be ideal and everyone else, if you are attending Otakon, you should totally come to the panel!

And does anyone have any suggestions about what the panel should include?

Also, you should come to my other one about Japanese street musicians because there will be a live performance by some awesome music artists.

Nadia!

How have you been? Lou has mentioned the Lunar panel here recently, I believe. I know I won't be there, but I do know a few that might. Kiz is obviously going to be there (as evident from his above post), but LuciaOne might be there. She usually goes, I think. If you need anything for it, let me know. I'm not sure what I'd be able to do, but if there's anything on LunarNET that would be of help, feel free to use it.

And stick around! Lou and other old-timers have been posting a lot more. I know I'd love to have you around here again if you've got the time!

LuciaOne ain't goin' this year.
She'll be in NYC it seems.

It'd be awesome if some other folks around here could make it, though. KF

I'd go if I lived anywhere near Otakon.

I'll be at Otakon, mainly in the Artist Alley, but I'll definitely take a break to come and sit in on the panel. I'll take a bunch of pics with my new spiffy digital camera. ^_^b

As far as ideas for the panel, I'm not sure I could suggest anything that isn't already obvious, but I'll give it a try ^^ Maybe start off with a short history of the game as an intro and then start taking questions as soon as possible. I think that involving the audience early on will be key. And it would be pretty cool if you could get a projector and possibly have some kind of visual presentation to go along with the history/intro and what not. Also, maybe have some instrumental lunar music playing softly in the background. I think that would be neat. Perhaps have a lunar photoshoot for any cosplayers follow the panel as well.

I can certainly provide any multimedia you might need for it, and perhaps even put together a tribute video in Adobe Premiere if you're planning to do some kind of presentation.

I've never been to an anime con before, so I have no clue how a panel works.

Just from my experience they are rather boring. Especially if you get stuck in the back and can't see anything. Although, being that I love Lunar so much I don't think that would matter in my case, but for those not too familiar with it... I think it would be nice if possible to get some kind of projector. I think a tribute video would be really awesome. A really nice way to end the panel (for those who are awesome and stay the entire panel!) :D

I'm not sure how panels are normally set up... but from what I've seen at cons it's just a long rectangular table in front of rows of chairs. That's pretty much the bare bones of it. And I guess it's up to the panelists to get creative from there. I think the only multimedia equipment that's always offered are microphones unless otherwise specified. Then again, it's been a few years now since I've attended a panel, so maybe it's completely different now. ^^

Best panels are set up in a friendly environment where folks like to chat back and forth.

This real good one I went to a while back was a small panel at Nekocon on Japanese hip-hop. Being that I really enjoy J-hip-hop and all, and the guy up there was really up on his pop-culture history, it was a lot of fun just talking about it and watching music videos.

A similar setup would be real nice. Lots of talk about the lesser-known Lunar merchandise would also be good. Of course I'd probably talk up the novels and manga, myself. KF

Well, I can fill things in on how panels are run at Otakon since I am the Otakon panels coordinator.

Anyway, you will have the long table up front with microphones. There will also be a laptop hookup to a projector and sound system for video clips, etc. If absolutely necessariy, I might be able to finagle connections to hookup a playstation or whatnot to the projector as well.

Oh, and I'm going to try to be "off duty" during the Lunar panel so that I can help participate in it as well.

I think this would be a best plan, especially if a lot of the people in the audience are familiar with the Lunar games. Otherwise I don't know what we'd do. I mean, sitting up there and explaining it really would be about the most boring thing ever.

Fortunately, I think there are a fair number of Lunar fans who attend Otakon -- based on how there are always at least a handful of Lunar cosplayers around.

Nadia Hemady, if I misspelled your last name forgive me. Where and when is this Otakon? If you still have any questions for ideas, hit me up.

Thanks, Lou. Is this a basic comic/anime convention?

More heavily on anime and video games than comics, but yeah. It's also huge at around 20,000 people (not including staff, guests, etc.).

A quick update...

Right now, I have scheduled the Lunar otakon panel for Friday night at 8:00 PM. I didn't want to give the Lunar panel an ungodly hour, but I didn't want to deny it from people that might want to leave early or arrive late. I figured Friday night at 8:00 works because it's up against a concert and a big anime premier, meaning that it might be a light time for panels anyway (and it's not unusual to squirrel away niche panels during these time slots in otakon past).

Which concert is going on during then?

Typically I go to the concerts, but I'm not so sure if I will this year... KF
