XSeed's new localization

Post by cj iwakura »

It's looking really good!

Albeit directly ripped from WD's here and there.

Granted it's a bit lazy on their part and certain things could definitely use tweaking. They really only have to translate the new material, and we still know nothing on the voice talent.

We demanded that they keep some or all of WD's localization, I can't see why they wouldn't gladly accept. Less work on their part, money is saved, and fans are happy.

The game has enough humor on its own without needing to add in more. So I'm satisfied as long as they keep the important parts the same as the WD script. KF

The colons and hyperbolic pointy shoes (judging from Jessica's character design) didn't make me frown as much as the screenshot with the body odor-related text. Was that a WD original? (I'd be more content with it if it was. :P)

Yes, WD made reference to the body odor. The humor usually worked, but sometimes it was a little forced fed and would have been better written with wit and not crudeness.

The text referring to Jessica's pointy shoes would serve the same purpose by just saying butt, which flows better than saying colon and fits the humor better.

I got it - a compromise everyone can live with:
Jessica: "I'm gonna kick your arse so hard you'll kiss the moons, er, Blue Star!"
...And of course WD did BO jokes. To clarify: I know what part of the game the body odor screenshot comes from, and I was interested in knowing if that text corresponds to anything in SSS. I've since done my own dirty work, and it's probably an Xseed rewrite. (Men's spring. WD gave us "dirt feels kinda manly" but no mention of crusty underwear that I've seen. Surely this sort of gross-out imagery would be out of place at the women's spring.)

Haaaaaaaah. Crusty cooters.

WD's text was more for their own amusement than game context. I'm sure their office was one big fart joke (and fart cloud).

Also, I still think butt sounds better than arse. I just can't see Jessica saying arse without it being awkward. She's the kind of girl that kicks butt. Of course I'd want the word ass just for more impact and pizazz.

The original line there was something like: "Alex, do you want to sleep here eternally?" KF

I like the original much better; It's more tasteful than what is said in HoS. I really hope the humor is not consistently childish.

Er, I mean the original as in the Japanese text. Sorry for not being specific. KF

Not as funny, but it got the point across.

Yeah, I don't think that translates as well compared to a foot in the ass reference.

Game companies have a bad habit of using very basic and boring fonts to make the text easily readable, but there are nicer fonts that are as easily read.

I'd prefer an established font to something that's novel and "interesting" or whatever. I'd like something that will still look good several years down the road to something that might seem cool now but will be easily placed as a 2000s fad font somewhere down the road.

At any rate, I think the problem with the font here has more to do with the quality of the screenshot since it's causing some problems with the variable width stroke. I imagine it'll look sharper when clearer shots come out.

If you could choose a font, what font would you choose?
