Computer illiterate here with a question.

How do you put a picture in your signature? I'm completely clueless. I'd appreciate any help I could get on this.

First, you have to have a picture uploaded somewhere that you want to use. Other folks will probably have to help you with that; I just use space my university gave me, LunarNET, or my AOL account's space.

Second, when you edit your signature (under Profile up top), insert the image by using this tag:

Code: Select all

 [img]http://url.of.image[/img]

That should be it. KF

Seems simple enough. Now I just need a place to upload my pics. Help, anyone?

You must first get yourself an online webhosting that allows hotlinking.

Insydius Recommends

Next you should read over on how to use BBCodes properly
http://www.lunarthreads.com/faq.php?mode=bbcode#10

Then head on over to your profile and use Profile Info > Signature

Here you want to add the URL of your image surrounded with good old BBCode [IMG] tag as exampled below.

Code: Select all

[IMG]http://www.photobucket.com/yourimageurlhere.jpg[/IMG]

Will get you something such as this below

And there you have it!

Thanks a million, guys!

Also, and extra-special thanks to localflick for designing the Kyle banner. It rocks my socks. :)

Talk about over shadowing posts and extended loading time.

2) Keep Sig and Avatar Sizes Down

Not everyone here has broadband, and some of us still access the board using dial-up. So please be considerate and keep the images in your sig down to 40KB total, preferably lower (like around 20KB). Any larger than that tends to yield very slow load times for those on slower modems.

3) Keep Sig and Avatar Height×Width Down

Not everyone uses the same resolution. So please be considerate and keep sig widths down to 600 pixels or less, and keep the heights down to 250 pixels or less. If the sig is excessively wide, then it causes everyone on a lower resolution to have to scroll left and right to view every single post in that thread (which is extremely annoying), and if it is excessively tall then it tends to overshadow your post.

I thought the Kyle sig was just under the limit. The size is 19.2k, but the "size on disk" is 32k. Which one is it online, and what's the difference between the two?

I have a sloooooow dial-up and it loads fine here. ilovemyguitar, I made a smaller version that's more bandwidth-friendly. This one's about 9k, but it's still 32k "on disk"

Size on disk is always larger than the actual file. Figure the size to be the 19.2kb figure. The second one you have there is only about 10kb. KF
