What happened? They used to be good. If anyone has some GOOD AMVs can you hook a girl up?

Anime is becoming too overly saturated these days anyway with a bunch of what seems like an endless supply of over the top beautiful guys doing bugger all. Oh, and everyone is a vampire.

You may be on to something there Werefrog. I went to Otakon last year and the AMVs were just TERRIBLE, terrible.

I agree. Many AMV's these days are very lame. Here are a few I enjoy though.
SPOILERS EXIST IN AL THESE VIDEOS!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Here's a Neji Hyuuga (Naruto) tribute AMV - Wa tara -- And He Flew. Crappy quality though.

Fate/Stay Night AMV - Fate/Eternal Inferno

And lastly, a Valkyria Chronicles AMV - Valkyria of Europa. OK. This is technically a video game, but I don't care.

Haha yess!! I personally can't stand that about much of Anime today either. I swear Goku from DBZ and Gutts from Berserk (I really can't think of any other characters) are like the last 80's style action heroes to exist. Where the hell's my variety!?! From what I can tell, entertainment in Japan these days either targets girls, japanese otaku or kids.

I find that most fans making AMVs these days are 12 year old girls who go crazy with Sony Vegas. They tend to believe adding as many shiny special effects to their video as possible will give them at least 34,784,023,842,300 views on YouTube. All concept of timing, editing and song relativity is thrown out the window. D:

Does it have any of the following: good writing/good direction/good character designs/a worthwhile message? Then yes.

Anime isn't tough now. Toughness pretty much died out in the 90s. I miss it sorta. At least I get to benefit from the upswing in anime for 20-something women; it's a welcome relief from the cult of the high school student.

But about AMVs... This took 2nd in the AMV contest at mah hometown animu con this year, and was far superior, IMO, to the overall winner. Kind of a weird assortment of footage but there's no denying the mad editing skillz.
