Fullmetal Alchemist - The Movie

Post by Dragonlord911 »

This movie came out on the 12th. It is the ending to the Fullmetal Alchemist series. It is the most awesome anime movie I have ever watched. I highly suggest it to everyone. This is a great movie even if you haven't watched a single episode of the show... It would help if you did though.

I didn't vote, because my answer was an inbetween. However, I can say one thing for the movie, the ending didn't cop out. I liked that about it, even if the rest wasn't so hot.

I wasn't really intrested in watching Fullmetal Alchemist, period. Damn you Adult Swim and my lazyness to change the channel! Regardless, I do enjoy the series now, although I have yet to watch about half of it (I saw episodes here and there, not too many in a row.) Now, the movie, I plan on getting it someday, but it's supposed to be the end of Fullmetal, as in, forever?

Unless they do something even more swoopy, it seems like it's the end, phyco.

I haven't seen much of the series, but my girlfriend had, and so I went with her when it was showing in town a few weeks back. Especially delicious on a big screen. Funny. And I still liked it, though I was still lost on half of the things.

I thought the movie was good, but definitely not the best I've seen.

And what the hell is up with the DVD?!!??!! You have to watch the stupid ad for the series before getting to the menu; it doesn't let you skip it!!!! Grrrrrrrrr...

Fullmetal is done by Funimation, right? If so, they are a bit, famous, with doing that to at least some of their DVDs. For instance, I have DBZ: Brolly movie and damned if it doesn't go through several minutes of annoying ads, without letting you skip, fastforward, or anything.

I'm only going to guess when it came out, but probably a few weeks now, easily.

To be honest I saw it ages ago in japanese (I can't stand the dub of this one... sorry) and while I did like the movie I kind of felt like the ending wasn't really an ending, there was more going on and they could run with that if they really wanted. However, I can also see that if they did that the overall quality of the series could go down as most of the loose ends from the series got tied in the movie. I am still very much a fan of the series and am glad I own this one. I would reccomend it, but only after you've seen the series. Makes more sense that way.

The movie was great! Though, i thought the ending could be better, to be honest, i think there should have been a kissing scene with Ed and Winry

And as for YoshiMars's comment... I like it when a series ends, but there's so much that could go on. I like potentials, and in a way, I like for them to be mainly unspoken.

I mean, I suppose they could have one in the same universe, but I wouldn't want the same main character.

I can see your point Sonic#, which is why I said the overall quality of the series could go down if they moved further. I would be content with it being over there, but at the same time I was dissapointed that the two main characters ended up where they did. It made perfect sense for the plot and I agree that it made for a good movie, but somehow I just wanted them to get back home. *shrugs* I can't explain it well...

You should edit the poll to have the option: "Didn't see it yet" :(

I didn't see it yet. However, I did see a lot of previews for it at the Funimation panel during Acen this year. That was cool, it looked awesome. ^_^ I'm not a huge FMA fan, but I'd still like to see the movie sometime.

Oh, dear...that had me laughing. Very cute.

As for Winry and Ed, I'm frankly glad they didn't put anything of that sort in. To me, Winry represented what the brothers had left behind - the road never travelled, so to say. Likely, they could have grown up, gotten over their mother's death, and still had a fairly happy and productive childhood. Instead they took the road they did, and I think the series goes makes a certain effort to illustrate the difference between them and Winry. She could see what they were going through, but she couldn't really understand. Putting her with one of the brothers - at least, during the time frame of the series/movie, where the events are still fairly recent - seems a bit odd to me, and detrimental to the symbolism.
As well, there wasn't really any romant ic developement, and I'm not much for romance unless it has a point and is well developed.
Perhaps I'm thinking a bit too deep into it, but that's the fun, eh?

As for the conclusion, I was quite happy with it. I do believe the tv show left a perfect ending, but the movie didn't hurt it much, and I'm glad they left it ambiguous - that just doesn't seem like a series that should have a solid ending to me.

Bleh... Ed fanpoodles... *shudder* I have to deal with those whenever I dress as Ed for conventions. Not fun that is.
