I have to say that I'm impressed with the latest Black Dahlia Murder album. It's actually pretty sweet.

I guess I'll have to throw in my hat for metal as well. Unfortunately for you traditional metal fans, being very much a child of the past decade, metalcore was really my introduction to metal (I know, that terrible, ain't it?) and it is still very much a part of my listening repertoire. I really fail to see why people hate metalcore so avidly. I mean, are Killswitch and Zao really THAT bad? But, fear not, I have a grounding in older thrash and death metal due to some mentoring older metalheads. I like Opeth.

But besides metal, some favorite bands are:
Coheed & Cambria (flamboyant prog-rock opera)
Thrice (the lyrics are among the most meaningful I've ever come in contact with. Plus, I'm really pleased with their new experimental direction.)
Bill Malonee and the Vigilantes of Love (Like Tom Petty, only better. Again, some of the best lyrics I've listened to.)
mewithYou (frenetic stream-of-consciousness rock)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (Dead Flag Blues= one of the creepiest and most moving tracks in post-rockdom.)
Pink Floyd (What angsty teenager doesn't?)
Fair to Midland (Hmm...words fail me on this one...)

Classical, of the choices listed, for me, though actually I prefer old-time Nordic and Celtic music more than anything.

Well, my top faves of Classical Music are a few all-time favorites of the general populous.

Johann Sebastian Bach (liked him even more whenI heard he had to fight for the right to play his own music)
Bach's son (his fifth, actually), Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (partially for being one of the founders of the Classical style)
Ludwig van Beethoven (brilliant, and the dude was basically deaf)
Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (great comic opera composer)

Along with any number of other Renaissance era or Baroque era composers, mostly.

I also appreciate some contemporary music, as long as its not Hip Hop, Hard Rock, Rap, Pop, 90s music in general, by a boy band, or by Zac Efron (or anyone else from the completely disposable cast of High School Musicals 1 through 9).

I've really been diggin on classical music lately. Canzona Duodecimi Toni by Giovanni Gabrieli, is a really good renaissance piece, Handel's real cool The Messiah is nuts, and Vivaldis Winter is probably my favorite.
