I've been out of the anime loop since I was married and all... that and they closed the Suncoast here... which means basically our anime feed is cut off. Back to the stone ages for Kansas again... guess I'll have to start downloading stuff from the internet... or buying it online

Solty Rei is something I watched four episodes on ON Demand while back from college. It's definately got the qualities to be a good anime if it can clear up it's story and take it somewhere different (it's a good story but it's too much like other anime).
The new Guyver also looks pretty good though I've only seen a few episodes of that, same goes for Negima! .

Favorite anime? How in God's name is anyone supposed to answer this question? It's way too difficult for me, but Ill certainly throw out some genre specific titles that float my boat.
-----------
Action/Adventure - Berserk and Gungrave are at the top of the list. Brandon Heat and his friend Harry McDowell climbing up the ranks of the Milennion organizatilon until tragedy strikes. Guts, the black swordsman seeking out the apostles of the Godhand in order to avenge his fallen comrades back in his days as a mercenary in the Band of The Hawk. Both have amazing action along with amazing plot. That's right, despite the total adrenaline frenzy, the story doesnt suffer! Amazing!
Comedy - Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. Think FLCL on mushrooms people, this series is totally crazy and hilarious to boot. Despite the constant insanity though, near the series conclusion, it is filled with emotion and is an A+ in my book. Definately worth your time.
Tragedy - Miyazaki's Grave of the Fireflies is the saddest most depressing movie I have ever seen. Despite it being a major tear jerker that makes you hate yourself for a good week straight, its message and fantastic presentation makes it worth the watch. Bravo.
Macabre - Gantz. Oh my goodness I LOVE this fricken series. One of the most vulgar, violent, perverted, amazing series ever created. Definately not for the kiddies. Kei Kurono and many other unfortunate "contestants" are forced into a horrific scenario. After dying grotesque death's, they wake up in an apartment room with a black ball called "Gantz" and are forced into games of sorts exterminating fierce aliens. Needless to say, not many survive the festivities.

Naw, no rape. The main character just happens to be very perverted, so he spends the days in school day dreaming about his teacher in the nude, along with some other events later on in the series.

I watched a special on G4 channel one time on how sex and technology are corellated in the japanese culture. You know they can't show two people havinf sex directly in anime that they produce, but a monster screwing a woman? Yeah, weird. Mostly because they were so traditionall before and now are going more diverse. You know for how much they wach hentai and porn and what not, they barely EVER have sex? I know it is weird. That show is called wire for sex (it is about how tech and sex are related, it isn't porn lol)
Oh for anime's I like lol.... I haven't read many but I would say... Megatokyo, chobits, and like chrono crusade i think. I want to read a LOT of anime, but I can't get ahold of any...

Yeah I saw the same program. It was mostly crap. Japan is about as equally "promiscuous" as the US, I've found. KFRPGMan wrote:Yeah, weird. Well, I'm not surprised considering most of the kinky stuff in hard porn involves Japanese. Hell, look at what young school girls wear as their school uniforms. In anime, Sailor moon, Inuyasha, Dragon Ball, hell even pokemon and Sakura Card Captor, all have young girls who either flash someone (Dragon Ball, Bulma and Goku, the "No balls" scene in the japanese version and when bulma doesn't where panties and she gives good 'ol master yoshi a massive nose bleed) or wear insanely short and revealing clothes.

...before this thread starts getting any more ridiculous...
School uniforms in Japan are conservative, as well. Real uniforms have skirts that are around knee-length. KF

If you dig around enough, you'll find equally ridiculous shows in the US. You have to consider what shows are popular here or in Japan, if you want to make any meaningful conclusions (even then there are some caveats). The stuff that you're referencing isn't necessarily popular in Japan, but it's stuff that folks in the US will pick up on as more reasons to say "OMG look at those weird Japanese people".RPGMan wrote:And also america dosen't have game shows where women get suxually harrased, I think Japan is far more open in their promiscuity (if thats a word =p)
Japan is a lot more lenient society when it comes to things like abortion and contraception. The stagnant population is due to a lot of other factors, not because people have sex less often--which is really doubtful. You should probably not be taking little facts here and there and making wild assumptions based on them.RPGMan wrote:They might be as much as us, but they show it a lot more openly. and we have sex more, their pop is drastically stagnant.
I don't know how many times I've had to say this... but anime is not a representation of Japanese society.phyco126 wrote:Well, I'm not surprised considering most of the kinky stuff in hard porn involves Japanese. I used to be a HUGE fan of Gundam Wing, Case Closed, Fulmetal Alchemist, ect. ect.
But as you may already be able to see from my icon, my current favorite is SLAYERS. Something about it just reminds me of Lunar XD Dunno why, but its still fun.
I mean, a JELLYFISH has far more arms than you have anyway XDDDDD
