Pokemon and Online Competitive Battling

Post by SpaceFlare »

Does anyone play Pokemon here? At least the cartdrige games? I'd be pretty surprised if I find a fellow NetBattler here. :P

I love the game boy games. I have yellow, silver, saphire, and emerald. However, my Silver game disappeared along with my gameboy color. Still, I have very rare pokemon in Saphire. I believe I have two shiney pokemon in Saphire and one in Emerald. Still, my favorite pokemon is Pikachu :P

Sapphire is a rare game? o.o. I stopped playing my Sapphire cause Jirachi is my favorite Pokemon, but, when I found out he had an eye on his tummy, I disowned him and kinda got led astray from the game. Yay for run-on sentences, ya?

I'm a huge Metagross fan. :P I did manage to get a shiney Metagross on my Sapphire. I did move everything from my Sapphire to Emerald in the end.

I stopped playing back after Silver... I just kinda lost the fandom. I did enjoy those games though. I still have a fondness for Arbok... I took on the original elite four (from red) with mine... ah good times. ^^

No, you misunderstood. I said I have rare pokemon (shiney ones) in my Sapphire cart. Sorry for the misunderstanding though.

Though now I kind of want to go play it, lol. I just wish I had access to a second GBA so I can trade between my Sapphire and Emerald.

I play NetBattle every once in a while when a friend or two who have it get online. And I'm a big fan of the GSC Pokémons.

I absolutely love the Pokemon games! I can't wait for Diamond and Pearl. :D

I've never gotten more than one shiney though. But it was a Poochyena, which is pretty cool I guess. Better than a shiney Pidgey or something. >_>

You know, I do have to say I was disappointed in ruby, saphire, and emerald. When Gold, Silver, and Crystal came out, you could still trade pokemon from Red, Blue, and Yellow. You could also travel to Kanto (Kanto, right?) after you beat the game, and play through there and get their 8 badges as well. So I was expecting Ruby, Saphire, and Emerald to allow you to trade with the past 6 games as well as travel to both worlds from the old games.

So, I must ask, will Diamond and Pearl allow something like that? Since I know no more info than the names, any more info would be nice. :)

I know, I was disappointed in that too. I loved G/S/C, and I would have liked to be able to trade with the Gameboy (Color) games. I liked R/S/E but they were a little disappointing compared to the first and second generations.

As for Diamond and Pearl, you can only trade with R/S/E and Fr/Lg. Also, if you really don't know any more than the names, I suggest you go to Serebii.net or another good Pokemon fansite. A lot of information has been revealed. I think that D/P looks very promising.

I can live with the whole trade thing, since I have Emerald and Sapphire. I'm heading over to look at that website now, but unfortunately, I saw on IGN the games are for the Nintendo DS, which I hate because I wanted to see them on the GBA too, unless they plan on doing that too, which I doubt.

Well D/P looks to be a big surprise. They'll be changing some of the battle system. Specifically which stat (attack or special attack) a move runs off. It used to be dependent on the type. They're changing it to the nature of the attack. Check fansites like Serebii.net for details.

Also I am amused by the new starters. Especially the fire one, if you've seen it, notice where his fire comes from?

Hehehehe, yeah, I see.

Though anothing thing that has always made me upset about the game series is Nintendo's idea to lock people out of getting all the pokemon and items. Instead, they make it a point to make people use E-cards and also go to live events. Living in Colorado and not wanting any part of E-cards limits me to the game itself, which means no rare pokemon, berries, items, and whatever else.

Well, living in the Philippines poses the same problems. No e-cards and live events for me.

The very controversial sharking for unobtainable pokemon, berries, and the seemingly impossible to attain perfect stats (no not 999 for each stat value, see postscript for more details on perfect stats) is always an option...

Some people look down on it, but being in my situation, I think it's ok to shark for those kinds of stuff. Sharking for shineys is what I would call overboard though.

P.S. Every pokemon has a base stat for every kind of statistic, meaning it has 6 base stats (HP, Attack, Defense, Speed, Sp. Attack, Sp. Defense). Each pokemon has different IVs, ranging from 0-31. Now the value of the IV affects the pokemon's final stat. Therefore by perfect stats we mean, pokemon with 31 IVs for each stat. Something impossible to achieve in the ingame system.
