Don't condescend to me, please. I said I was amused, not surprised, and the amusement was at their careful phrasing, which I thought was done well. As someone who does a nontrivial amount of editing and formal writing, I can appreciate their effort.
The section to which I was referring was the history of the series' releases, where a purely factual mention of the three previous NA/EU publishers would not make any qualitative implication at all. Site seems to be slow or down, so I can't reread the section right now.

No one is being condescending to you, so once again you're jumping the gun. Your statement seemed to imply that they were being sneaky by not mentioning past publishers so I wanted to be clear about business practices on their own site. I knew that you were referring to the "What is Lunar?" section as that is the only place with the release information of the series.

Not that I want to jump in the middle of things, but appending things like "You should know this my dear" to the end of statements does seem a bit condescending, even if you didn't mean for it to be. ^.^;

Hello all,
I sure hope this "rebirth" thing really goes well. I've played Lunar since TSS and have to say that I am a little depressed that no one came back to voice the characters from the PS version. I loved the website except for a couple of things....the music....and the new Meribia. I feel that the music was too iconic to change. I would have been totally happy with the old Wings song. Although I will give credit where it is due, it is still an enjoyable song. As far as Meribia goes...I am a little bothered by the fact that I might have to figure out where everything is. I also feel that Meribia is an iconic place. Afterall, our favorite fat guy sets up shop there. Well, I am ranting but I just wanted to put my word in. I sure hope that I can put my love for the PS Silver Star on hold while I play the newly revamped version and welcome it to the Lunar family with an open mind.
The only thing is that I have to go buy a PSP now.....
I sure hope that spending $200 isn't as much of a bust as when I bought the DS just to play Lunar: DS opening day.....what a sad sad day that was.
PSS: I'm new....soooo HAI ^_^

Speaking of the official site...Did anyone else think the comment about Mia's breast size was a little left field? Not saying it wasn't funny...Just. Kind of. Weird?

Maybe Working Designs rubbed off a little too well in unnecessary humor. Or was it a WD reference to begin with?

I don't remember it turning up in any games, but I do remember reading about Mia's superlative bust in the SSS newtype artbook. Doesn't make it any less odd of an inclusion now.

I just read the Fun Fact under Mia's character bio, and the comment is very much in the same vein as something Working Designs would have stated. It says she has the largest breasts out of all of the party members, yes even Ramus. Very tongue-in-cheek humor.
I have to wonder why Jessica sometimes refers to Kyle as the "octopus" under her Fun Fact. Maybe he's overly clingy..... or his hands are always sticky.

She refers to him that way on one of the bromide cards that came with the MPEG SSS game.

Re: One thing I have to mention about the official site by XSEED
Calling someone an octopus is a mild insult in Japanese. In previous versions it became 'moron' or 'jerk' or something to that effect. It suggests stupidity.
Funny, since it turns out that actual octopi are quite intelligent.

Someone was arguing with me the other day that it's not actually octopi, but octopuses. I think that's a lie..Shiva Indis wrote:Funny, since it turns out that actual octopi are quite intelligent.

Actually, it's octopodes. The word is Greek, so it takes a Greek plural.

Re: One thing I have to mention about the official site by XSEED
Wikipedia discusses this issue at length:
Note to self: don't use octopi. The Oxford English Dictionary (2004 update) lists octopuses, octopi and octopodes (in that order); it labels octopodes "rare", and notes that octopi derives from the mistaken assumption that octōpūs is a second declension Latin noun, which it is not.

There's a translation of said bromide card (as well as the others released with it) here:
http://home.att.net/~RCgamusic/ssscards.txt
With Shiva's input that "octopus" is a mild insult in Japanese along with this translation... I would say "octopus" has a double meaning.

Eh, that's a recent addition to the OED. The 1992 version only listed octopodes. I checked this over a decade ago.

Re: One thing I have to mention about the official site by XSEED
And who would have thought the mere mention of octopus would become so informative!
I suggest we all start calling people octopus in our daily lives and see if it catches on in the West. Culture is such a curious thing. Now I'm curious as to the true meaning of Octopussy...

That sounds better than octopuses, I'll take that...Alunissage wrote:Actually, it's octopodes. The word is Greek, so it takes a Greek plural.

Yeah, my sister has used it ever since I told her about it. I know we found some book or something that used it too and were really delighted.

Now whenever you watch the Discovery Channel or National Geographic you better correct them if you hear them say Octopi or Octopuses. I believe I have heard narrators say Octopodes though it sounded more like Octopods minus the e.
